Ralph and Karen Holyoke stated and built the Homeport in 1997 with a desire to return to their Maritime roots. Prior to
Homeport they lived in Western Canada where Ralph was working as a Petroleum Geologist and then in commercial and residential
real estate sales. Karen has worked as a Professional Accountant (CME) since leaving University and continues to operate her
own independent consulting firm. Both are involved in the community with volunteer work in a number of civic groups, Local
antique auto clubs and several other boards.
They are avid travelers with the Caribbean a favorite destination for the sun, sand and scuba in Mexico, Cayman Islands and
Cuba with Cozumel a frequent stop. Both have visited Europe 5 times since 1973 and one extended "vacation" saw Ralph and
Karen thru Europe, Africa and into Asia Minor on a trip that lasted over a year. A recent trip in spring of 2005 was thru
Southern France and Barcelona, Spain. 2006 saw the travelers in South Carolina and Bermuda. And they were able to follow
Karen's passion to the Masters Golf in Augusta GA in 2007. As a result of their adventures they really understand the joys
and the rigors of travel and how sometimes the smallest of gestures or amenities can make you feel relaxed, comfortable and
at ease. Homeport was founded on these ideals.
Now these globe trotters stay closer to home with Karen an avid summer golfer and gardener and keen winter curler and involved with her many clients. While running the day to day operations of Homeport
Ralph finds time to entertain the guest in, of all places in this elegant Mansion, the garage, with one of his Classic British
autos. Either the 1961 MGA 1600 a beautifully restored daily driver or the newest addition a spectacular 1966 Jaguar 3.8S Type
Saloon Car Type custom conversion. Also on the work sheet as time permits is the rear half of a second MGA slowly (very slowly
says Ralph) being transformed into a companion trailer. |
