Set high on a hill with a commanding view
of the Bay of Fundy, and the Historic Port and Skyline of Saint
John the Homeport Historic B&B/Inn c1858 provides the perfect
setting to relax and enjoy the gracious ambiance of Canada's oldest
incorporated city.
The twin homes were built in 1858, predating Canadian confederation
by 9 years, and were constructed for a prominent shipbuilding
family whose boat yard was located a few hundred yards below on
the harbor tidal flats. Its unique Italianate architecture reflects
the opulence of the time with very large bright windows and rooms,
10 foot ceilings, two free standing spiral stair cases, and detailed
wood work rosettes, finials and columns . Of particular interest
is a pair of carved figure heads that have stood sentinel in the
formal twin parlors for nearly 150 years. Come stop for a while
and enjoy these magnificently restored Mansions and be pampered
in Five Star luxury. Affordable, Convenient, and Unique the Homeport
is the ideal site for all your Bay of Fundy and Southern New Brunswick
travels.
The
owners, Karen and Ralph Holyoke, have furnished the HOMEPORT with
fine antiques and art in a distinctive maritime heritage theme
to reflect the heyday of the clipper ships from 1850 to 1880.
This theme is evident in the 10 large, comfortable guest suites
. Each room is impeccably furnished with a queen sized bed covered
in fresh crisp linens and a feather duvet or quilt. There is a
private period style bathroom with either a claw footed tub, oversized
soaker tub or Whirlpool tub and thick fluffy cotton towels and
robes. Each room has a sitting area with TV, private line phone,
Data port, A/C in season, and so many extras to make yours a memorable
stay.
After guests are settled in they are encouraged to visit the elegant
main parlor for complimentary afternoon tea and refreshments.
To help plan your stay you will find the daily weather forecast
and information on events and sights that you may find of interest.
Take advantage of a local walking tour along Douglas Avenue to
view the many grand old homes on this heritage street. Your hosts
also provided a register of menus from local restaurants for planning
your evening meal. The HOMEPORT, as its name implies, is a great
spot to base all your travels, be it down the shore for whale
watching or sea kayaking, up river for a quiet country picnic,
or around town to view the many historic sights and sounds of
Saint John or nearby Reversing Falls.
After a great night's sleep Ralph and Karen want you to start
the day off right with the very special and filling RISE AND DINE
BREAKFAST. The hot main course is complemented by fresh in-season
fruits and a selection of homemade granola, cereals, teas and
fresh coffee. They serve only the freshest pastries, muffins and
rolls with home made jams and jellies to ensure your stay at HOMEPORT
will be restful and fulfilling.
